曾是○○七電影「八爪女」拍攝背景，深受諸如瑪丹娜與妮可基嫚等好萊塢明星喜愛的印度「湖上皇宮」飯店，由於受到一年來最嚴重乾旱的影響，這幢有八十三個房間、外觀為白色大理石的豪華飯店已失去了其引以為傲的湖面，只剩下一片乾涸土地。


位於沙漠地帶拉加斯坦邦烏代浦爾的「湖上皇宮」，矗立在三公尺深的皮秋拉湖中間，過去曾是王室的行宮，充滿浪漫氣氛。不過，現在包圍「湖上皇宮」的不再是蔚藍湖水而是污泥，入住的賓客必須靠四輪馬車接駁至客房，而不再是小船；乾涸湖底則成了兒童的球場。


烏代浦爾居民有四成仰賴觀光業維生，當地居民表示，皮秋拉湖乾涸，部分是因為去年雨量較少，以及居民固定取水飲用所致。在經歷去年底孟買恐怖攻擊及經濟衰退後，當地觀光業又因湖水乾涸受到巨大衝擊。


據印度氣象局估計，今年季風降雨只有長期平均值的四十三％。專家更預測，聖嬰現象可能進一步擾亂全球氣候，澳、亞恐更乾燥。
